C151 : Lorne - Deans Marsh

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 14, 2013 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.0

A nice side road, if you`ve got time. Leaving from Lorne allows you to travel uphill, which I find more enjoyable. Road climbs up the range through scenic bush, winding through 40-60kph bends. Traffic was minimal, but it was mid week when we ran through. Didn`t see any cops & weather was magic. Exciting road !
Returned via the Forrest-Apollo Bay Road

Forrest to Skenes Creek

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
January 25, 2015 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.7

Windy road through forest surroundings. Best ridden in summer as moss grows on the road in winter.

C511 : Reefton - Cambarville ( Reefton Spur )

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 21, 2008 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.5

Nominally this ride starts at the Reefton Pub, but much of the lead in road is quit pleasant. I personally have never seen a cop on the Reefton Spur but I have seen plenty going to and from, so beware. From the Reefton Pub you turn left up and over the bridge an into the hills. This road first climbs the range and then runs the ride before dropping down into a saddle between two hills. The road is fairly tight and demanding and the traffic generally light (as the road doesnt really go anywhere). Hazzards include damp patches that hang arround forever after rain in winter, snow is not uncommon either, and the occassional very slippery piece of bark. Like most Australian roads, dont stray off the road or you will face plant a tree and then fall several meters. You have come to the end of the main part of the Reefton when you arrive at a T-juction after descending a hill. Usually there will be several bikes parked just round the corner to the left as riders take a deep breath before running the spur in the opposite direction. An alternative is to continue to the left over a less demanding but still twisty road to Marysville and one of the many cafes.

Dargo Run : Dargo Glenaladale

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
February 26, 2016 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Came across this road almost by accident - and after riding it I was surprised to see that it hasn't been listed up here yet.

This is a road to nowhere - a return trip (unless you have an adventure bike in which you can go all the way to Mt Hotham if you're happy to do a number of k's on gravel).

(If the gov't paved the rest of the way - this would be the #1 road for bikes for getting to the alps!)

As for this section, the road is in good condition with a wide variety of corner types from tight right through to higher speed sweepers.

For all the roads I've traveled in this area, I'd have to say that this belongs near the top of the list - at the time of posting this, the surface was in great condition - much better condition than most others in the region. A very enjoyable run which I plan on returning to.

Mount Buffalo : Porepunkah

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
February 26, 2016 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

The Mt Buffalo road is a challenging road. Starting at the base of the mountain is a high speed run with nice sweepers, which after a few kilometers start to tighten up. There are many tight hairpins as well as corners that tighten up just before the exit so you need to keep your wits about you, but makes for an enjoyable run.

Mitta Mitta South (to Omeo)

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.7

Previously containing a section of gravel road, this is recently fully sealed all the way from Mitta Mitta to Omeo - and is not widely known about yet. Over the top of the ranges the last bit to be sealed is slippery (as the stones have not been swept after the sealing - as at start of 2015), but this should clear up over time. Can be a great option to return north if doing the south side of Falls Creek road.

Forrest to Skenes Creek

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
January 25, 2015 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.7

Windy road through forest surroundings. Best ridden in summer as moss grows on the road in winter.

Portland to Mt Gambier SA

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
January 2, 2015 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.0

Nice scenic road with some very nice coastal lookouts and top spots on the Glenelg river. plenty of wildlife to keep you looking. the road surface is good most of the time, can see the odd log truck. just a good easy trip any time just watch out for kangaroos.

Marnoo - Coleraine

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
August 17, 2015 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.0

Beggers can't be choosers - and this area of the state doesn't have the greatest of roads to offer. But this was a pleasant short stint for a rural ride. Nice windy section of road going through rolling hills. Not worth it for a dedicated trip, but if in the area and you can use this route - it'll be far better than any other alternatives.

Mount Hotham

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Excellent surface, wide road, mostly fast smooth & consistent corners, with the odd tighter one thrown into the mix that takes you up to the ski fields. Obviously warm weather riding when there's no snow around. Recommend avoiding weekends - very little traffic during week days.

Narrabarba - Rockton

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
July 31, 2010 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Fantastic corners and a great biking road

Elliots Way

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Narrow road consisting of constant tight corners and a good grippy surface this is worth checking out. Follows the Hydro scheme down the mountain, and back up the other side again it's one of those hidden gems that's easily missed. Very little traffic as the road is mostly used for the hydro scheme, or those who want to be on an isolated twisty road that doesn't really go anywhere, so perfect for us. :-)

Cabramurra Run

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Lots of corners, taking you up to the highest town in Australia. (Unfortunately no Accommodation at Cabramurra but they do have a cafe).

Recommend also doing Elliot's way whilst up this area. (Either as a loop via Tumut, or turning off, and then doubling back whilst traveling along this route).

Snowy Highway (East Cooma)

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 1 star route rating Motorcycle Road1.0

Personally I would avoid this section of the highway. Uninteresting, and far better alternative routes to make your way East/West. If you have the time I would suggest turning off and heading south via Jindabyne, Khancoban and Cabramurra. (Obviously staying on the highway is much shorter and faster, but if you're here on a bike, you're here to have fun, and not travel the quickest most boring route).

The Snowy Mountain Highway West of Cabramurra, or East of the Monaro Highway / Jindabyne Turnoff are quite nice - it's just this section that's least attractive.

Alpine Way (Khancoban-Thredbo)

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Grippy road surface, and unending tight corners this is a great way to make your way over the ranges and wear down those chicken strips.

I personally prefer to do from West to East so the tight corners are your uphill run, with the downhill run using the wide, smooth fast corners on the Thredbo-Jindabyne run. (Plus by going West - East you avoid the $6 NSW parks entry fee ;-) ) but have found either direction a delight.

Thredbo Run

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Fast, wide, smooth and consistent corners, with exceptional road surface - makes for a very pleasant and enjoyable ride up or down the ranges from Jindabyne to Thredbo. Can be used to pass over the ranges now that the Victorian side has been completely sealed (however the Victorian side is very different - much tighter, and slower, but still extremely enjoyable and worth doing).

Kosciuszko Road : Jindabyne - Charlottes Pass

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
November 28, 2010 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

One of the highest roads in Australia, with breathtaking views and some fun corners.

Tawonga Gap Rd (Bright - Mt Beauty)

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

This road crosses the ranges linking Bright with Mt Beauty. Road conditions are very good, with ample overtaking opportunities (if the need arises), but lots of great twists and turns. A great way to link up different sections of a Great Alpine Tour.

Mt Darragh Road : Bombala - Pambula

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
November 28, 2010 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.3

Mostly good and quite new surface but with a few patchy, gravelly spots. Excellent corners and nice run down to the coast.

The Snowy River Way (East)

New South Wales > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

A great rural road, with relaxing bends that make for an easy but enjoyable trip. A great option to commute from Jindabyne to the east. Add the Mt Darragh Road (Bombala - Pambula) for an exceptional run with a great variety.

Mitta Mitta North

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

A great way to travel North/South - this road follows the Mitta Mitta river from Mitta Mitta north, giving great scenery. Not as much inclines / descents as some other roads in the area it can be a great addition to an alpine trip - giving extra variety to what the region has to offer.

Granya Run

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

Simply gorgeous. If heading to the Great Alpine Range - make this section part of your route. Road surface is excellent and twisties are beaut.

Eildon - Jamieson

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
March 28, 2015 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.8

An excellent road for bikes - the twists just keep going and going - hardly any straights to speak of. Fully sealed now it's a great route to make your way up to Mansfield from Melbourne or for a day trip out.

C521 : Mansfield - Whitfield

Victoria > Australia > Oceania
November 16, 2008 - 3 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.5

Great little ride that can be linked up with the great alpine rd to omeo. There is a couple of pubs and fuel at mansfield but only a pub in whitfield, if carrying on to omeo would be a good idea to fill up in mansfield. enjoy
