a lomg day ride or comfy day and a half. some amazing sections of road here. surface mainly good. some bits exceptional, some poor. plan your petrol, some lomgish stretches without juice here.
From the base of Mount Etna, the SS185 winds its way down to the coast through secluded villages. It gets rather narrow at times but its still an enjoyable ride.
Going up Etna, through old lava flows, sometimes misty/ foggy, unreal!
Watch out for the causeway dips. There are 3 or 4. When it rains it can be flooded.
Very nice ride. Take it easy or hard, up to you.
very nice stretches of road
Starts off with a steep climb and loads of hair pins pretty soon out of Briancon. Once in Italy, it's a nice down hill run with nice corners and spec scenery. Many spots to stop for espresso or two. Once in Italy, don't miss the Stroppo to Sempeyre ride :)
Starts easy and straight but turns into a beautiful run with spec scenery, good surface, cool corners and v little traffic. Did this in June (summer). Optional continuation over Col d Sempeyre, which is another level of adventure.
One of the worlds spectacular rides. Single track all the way. Steep ascend and descend. The day I was riding it, the top of the mountains were fogged up with v limited visibility. In parts, the track is damaged, so watch out. Track is asphalt, with short gravel sections. Bring a map, loads of turn offs and forks. I dont recommend going on your own, if anything goes wrong, could be a while to find help. Blind corners all the way, too, so one finger on the horn. The views during the ascend are truly breathtaking (Stroppo side). Fuel in Sempeyre. I did this in June.
