A good way to avoid going north on the M1. This route links very nicely to Melton-Mowbray ending up eventually on the A19 just south of York. Predominantly straight, although there are some cheeky bends to catch you out. Be aware of the local lads in their mums Corsa who dont appreciate you overtaking them!
Take the B6479 out of Settle towards Chapel-le-Dale. When the get to the Ribblehead viaduct tuen right on the B6255 to Hawes. This really is a superb stretch of road and one of the finest in the dales. The first half is a rollercoaster of a road with a grat variety of bends. Stop at the midway point to admire the Ribblehead Viaduct - one of the classic views of the Dales. The second half to Hawes is faster and more open. Very popular with bikes in the summer, so watch out for police. An unmarked blue Subaru patrols this area so keep an eye out.
A nice east-west road running through Cumbria and across into the Dales. There are some quite nice sections on this route (I can't remember specifics as it was a while since I was there), the stone walls on certain sections make it quite hard to be confidently fast in places.
A nice blast down from Winchester to Petersfield. I heard that police presence has been increased on this route after a biker got busted at nearly 140mph, not sure if it's true, but might be useful to be aware of this fact.
An absolute pleasrue to ride. Even better if you come into Helmsley from Thirsk, time it right and you get a great run at Sutton-Bank and its very tight, steep bends. Watch as you drop down into Helmsley though as the boys in blue do like to wait for you. Leaving and heading north to Stokesly, theres a left fork about a mile past where you clear the 40 mph limit, if youre caught behind a big vehicle leave plenty of room as anything approaching that junction from the left will be totally blind to you and youll only find out when youre spread-eagled over their bonnet - I know as it almost happened to me! Do watch the speed limits in the villages though and let loose on the open stretches! Enjoy 100km of top riding!!
