Planning a route for a 7 day trip from northern Alberta to Missoula Montana in June 2018
As others have already indicated, great road. Starts out nice back in st Marie's, but gets better as u go further north toward st regis... better scenery and better twisties. Ends in gravel (about 10-20 miles or so?), so take that into consideration. Road condition is good, but not perfect, so requires a little more than the normal caution for a little gravel, potholes, etc., but mostly it's quite good. River scenery is great. And nice cadence to the turns in some sections more to the NE. I'll come back to this one.
Two passes in the Rocky Mountains to match anything Europe has to offer This 150 mile North South mountain route from Montana to Wyoming takes in two of the best mountain passes for motorcycling anywhere in the USA, Beartooth and Chief Joseph. Each has their favorite, go and decide for yourself which you prefer! These are spectacular high mountain passes with Mountain Goats and can have rapid changes in weather conditions, so be prepared. Because of the changing weather conditions, the road surface in some places is not perfect and it is important to try to keep your line in some of the sharper turns to avoid possible unseen oncoming hazards. Overall Two Glorious Roads.
A lovely quiet scenic route, smaller roads and easier to get lost than on the other side!
Beautiful lake views and great curves.
Beautiful summer run to Kalispell from Edmonton. Don't go too early in the year because the Road to the Sun won't be open.
Great paved back country route with lots to keep you interested
Fun little backroads route. Kelly canyon is busy with road bicyclists often, heads up.
Busy recreation canyon ride. If you can find it during a quiet moment, it's a great short ride. Otherwise it's typically pack with slow moving traffic and road bicyclists.
Surrounding mountains hang tight to the road. Good scenery and runs along a stream for a while too.
Mountain road with lots of curves during the main pass section.
Great wooded area to pass through.
The highway from St Marys to the turnoff onto Highway 49 is an up down curving road. Depending on tourist traffic you may have the road to yourself or you may have to wait for one of the short straights to get around. A fun ride.
This is a section of the International Selkirk Loop. A mix of twisty roads along the lakeshore, good sections of straight stretches and a chance to see the similarities and differences in road conditions/maintenance between British Columbia and Idaho.
Excellent ride done over 6 days. Lots of excellent views and places to stay. We stayed in Missoula for 2 days and did a couple of rides there, then back to BC. From Creston BC to Nakusp BC was very nice ride, but slow and lots of corners.
Great little run, takes about 3 hours.Perfect for a beginner rider, 501 hwy is very quiet
Thick forest, deserted road with switchbacks, not a fast road but a great ride to get away from it all.
A very nice empty road that has many nice corners, takes in a national monument and is pretty well surfaced. Well worth a look.
Really good winding road from Montana into Idaho, some gravel in places but don be put off this otherwise great road. If you like corners, this is for you!
Twisty and scenic ride through a national forest with some very good viewpoints and interesting corners
If you like corners, this road is hard to beat, simply fantastic!
Beautiful lake views and some nice easy corners, a pleasant excursion.
Lots of good corners and nice scenery and a pleasant lake.
A nice alternative to I15 with some spectacular scenery.
Interesting scenery and a few nice corners
