NM Chaves Otero Motorcycle Roads

NM24 : Weed - Dunken
NM - Chaves/Otero/Eddy/Le... > New Mexico > United States > America
June 1, 2016 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

State Hwy 24 in New Mexico is not to be missed. I stumbled upon this on my GPS screen and decided to check it out. The eastern half is country roads through high desert landscape, and the western half (closer to Cloudcroft) is forest and curvy mountain road. Super fun for any type of bike, and gorgeous scenery. A+

Roswell - Capitan - Ruidoso

The section between Roswell and Capitan is about 78 miles starting in the high desert with a distant view of the Capitan Mountains and ending in the mountains at Capitan. Not only no police but almost no traffic. Very pleasant ride with some good curves and then a nice ride in the mountains from Capitan to Ruidoso.

Wild selection of great corners, some bad surface and gravel but if you e not put off by that, its great.

US 380 : Capitan - Hondo ( Part of The Billy the Kid Trail )
NM - Chaves/Otero/Eddy/Le... > New Mexico > United States > America
September 24, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

In the middle of the southern New Mexico desert rises the Sierra Blanca mountain range. This is the shortest distance between Texas and skiing. The Billy the Kid Trail is a lopsided trianglular route described by US 70 in the southern leg, US 380 in the eastern leg, and NM 48 in the west. Featured places are Ruidoso and Capitan where Texans haul their monster trailers for a break from the endless flatlands. In September, there is a huge rally of the unofficial New Mexico State Vehicle, the Harley Davidson, called the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally. When the leaves change the scenery is particularly striking. The map does not show the trip well, but you can start and finish anywhere on the loop, Capitan, Hondo, Ruidoso. Watch out for traffic on holiday weekends, but the scenerys worth the ride.

US 82 : Artesia - Alamogordo ( Cloudcroft and Lincoln National Forest )
NM - Chaves/Otero/Eddy/Le... > New Mexico > United States > America
September 23, 2007 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.0

Artesia and Alamogordo themselves are nothing special, but the middle is spectacular. US Route 82, Lovington Highway, is the start of a very scenic route. As you transition from the open grasslands youd think your leaving Texas. The road gently climbs up into the wooded mountains of the Lincoln National Forest, birthplace of Smokey the Bear. There are some nice straights, but up in Cloudcroft, the scenery picks up. Then is where you fall down into the Central NM Rift and end up in Alamogordo, where there is food fuel and lodging. A quick trip south to White Sands National Part is highly recommended. Für die, die Deutsches sprechen, es ein Geschwader der Tornados geben so, die dort am Holloman Luftwaffenstützpunkt, eine überraschende Zahl von den deutschen Familien und Geschäfte hier gegründet werden.
